Do I have to pay to get a blog?
I decided to write a quick post in response to a question that comes back quite a bit these days.
The question is the following: Do I have to pay to get a blog?
The answer is: Yes and No.
You can get a free blog from http://wordpress.com/ or https://www.blogger.com/start
These are the two most popular platforms for blogs.
Once you register to one of these services you will have a blog and the URL (address) will look something like this:
www.nameofyourblog.wordpress.com
or
www.nameofyourblog.blogspot.com
If you want a free blog with .ca at the end you can register one here: http://www.blog.ca/.
In this case the address of your blog would look like this: nameofyourblog.blog.ca.
Each of these sites will give you access to some basic templates that you can use to take care of the design aspect of your blog.
You will not have to pay to register a domain name and hosting but if you decide to go with a custom made design instead of the template provided for your blog you will have to pay your webmaster to design this for you.
I personally recommand going with the free option if you want to test an idea without spending much.
However as soon as the testing phase is done and you’re ready for something more professional go ahead and speak to your webmaster about getting a professional blog, something without .blogspot.com or .wordpress.comm at the end.
The address of this professional blog will look like this:
www.nameofyourblog.com
Doesn’t that feel more professional already
