Alone with my Blackberry

The other day I tried to post something on my blog from my Blackberry and it didn’t work for me.

I got frustrated and gave up on it but I decided to try again.

So here we go again…

I’m on my Blackberry and I just took a picture of the long and lonely road that most people wallk on everyday when starting a business or a website.

How does business feels like this?

I learned this year that collaboration is the name of the game. If you feel like a loner in your market. I challenge you to change that and to try teamwork for a change.

If you work alone I’d be interested to know how it feels to do everything by yourself.

I use to love it until my business started to pick up then I hated it.

What’s your views on working in a business alone?

I made a big mistake

I made a big mistake

I don’t usually like to admit this kind of stuff but lately I came to the realization that I had made a pretty big mistake in term of promoting myself.

Here’s how it happen. A few years ago I started working with WordPress (a content management system) to help make it easier for people. WordPress provides an interface for my clients to go in and make simple modifications to sites that I built for them. It made it possible for my clients to make changes to their website without needing to know much about the coding behind the web pages.

While my clients got used to making their own changes using the interface provided to them to change text, add pictures and videos I became quite an expert at changing the code around to add features to the websites that I worked on using WordPress.

  • I learned how to make a website secure so that it would be harder for hackers to break in.
  • I learned how to create features like calendars, video feature box, track stats, generate report and create membership sites and so on.

I learned a lot more but I’ll spare you the details. Let’s just say that I had a lot of fun working around WordPress. I had some much fun that later on I started answering questions related to WordPress blogs online in forums, on Twitter and on other social media platforms.

This labelled me as a WordPress expert and I like it so I went with it.

WordPress is great and I’m going to let you finish but…

… WordPress is only on of the tools that I used in the last few years and this is where I failed.

I neglected talking about:

  • Joomla which I’m pretty good at;
  • Twitter;
  • Facebook;
  • so many of the other social media platforms;
  • Business card design;
  • Web design in general;
  • Search Engine Optimization;
  • Email marketing;
  • Making money online;
  • and offline marketing.

By now you probably get what I am saying. I failed to brand myself as a webmaster and branded myself as a WordPress master instead :-(

There is nothing wrong with WordPress and I will keep on using it. If fact if you contact me for a WordPress site I will be glad to give you a discount because I love using WordPress but I just want to make sure that you know that you can contact me for other services as well.

Other web experts such as me may understand the difference between a WordPress site and something else but most of my clients don’t care what I use. They just want it to work, look good and support their business needs.

Did any of you wondered what I meant when I talked about WordPress in the past? I’d be interested to know.
